Thanksgivings, Baptism and Confirmation
A Service of Thanksgiving provides the perfect opportunity for parents and families to give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child and to pray for family life. We would be delighted to discuss a special celebration of your new child at a ‘Thanksgiving’ service, which includes naming your child.
This celebration is usually held as a part of our 10.30am service on a Sunday so that the whole church can celebrate with you and your family. Please contact the Team Rector, Rev Justine Middlemiss, if you would like to make arrangements for your special ‘Thanksgiving’ service.
Baptism (also called Christening) is different to the ‘Thanksgiving Service'; Baptism is the sacrament of initiation into membership of the Church which Jesus asked of those who follow him. Baptism can be for people of any age, children or adult.
We welcome all people who want their children to be baptised in the name of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Bringing your child for Baptism arises out of your own faith in Jesus and it requires the parents and Godparents to make significant declarations on behalf of their children.
As a parent you will be involved in preparation sessions to explore what it means to have your child baptised. Whilst not a hard and fast requirement, if you are not currently a regular church goer you might consider attending the church for a few weeks before the baptism to further understand what you are committing your child to. We also encourage parents who have not themselves been confirmed to consider whether this might be an appropriate step for them as well.
Baptisms are held as a part of our 10.30am service on a Sunday so that the whole church can support you in the commitments you are making towards your child. Please contact the Team Rector, Rev Justine Middlemiss, if you would like to make arrangements for your child to be baptised.

If you are interested in exploring Christian faith further, or making a public statement of your faith through being baptised or confirmed then please contact the Team Rector, Rev Justine Middlemiss, as she would be delighted to talk this through with you and help you decide the best way to proceed.
